Wear Orange on 10/10 to Prevent Bullying, Promote Anti-Bullying Awareness

On Wednesday, October 10, 2012, Atomic Learning will join educators around the world celebrating Unity Day. Unity Day is a day focused on anti-bullying. Along with wearing orange to show your anti-bullying support, as educators you have an opportunity to help students understand why bullying is such a big issue.

Check out PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center’s digital toolkit for preschool-third grade. The toolkit is aligned to the story “Spookley, the Square Pumpkin.” While Spookley is great for the younger kids, PACER also provides classroom help on bullying for kids of all ages, including a digital petition toolkit for a petition signing event, elementary school educational lesson plans, and middle and high school discussion guides.

Bullying affects students of all ages and abilities. Check out the “I Care Because” section of the website to see how bullying has effected others, or to add your comments.

Atomic Learning offers a number of 21st Century Skills Projects addressing digital citizenship. Our project entitled "Cyberbully? No Way, Not Me" tackles this very challenge. It includes a guide and the resources necessary to hold an interactive conversation with students about the harm caused by insensitive remarks online, and how to deal with them when they're encountered.
